Final Submission

I got really good feedback on my magazine and the changes that i had made from my first submission. The only thing that I needed to change from my third quarter submission to now is, on my cover page I misspelled Phenom so i corrected my spelling, this was the only thing that my peers and my AICE Media Studies teacher Mr Elsbree said needed to be changed.

Creative Critical Reflection #4

How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware, and online- in this project?
I used many software's to make this magazine including, Adobe Indesign, Publisher, and Word. Many websites including Google, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated also helped me in my research into how to make the magazine and how normal sports magazines distribute there product as well as there layouts. The software's helped me to make the backgrounds pop and well as to make the titles and font exciting. Overall without these software's, hardware, and online websites my magazine would not be very good at all.

Creative Critical Reflection #3

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills have increased a lot during this project. I have learned what is needed to have a successful product and how big of a role advertisement plays in that process. I have learned how to use many programs that i previously had no idea how to use such as indesign and publisher. I learned how to use photos to eliminate white space in articles, as well as how to properly use photos and words in a cover page. Lastly i learned how to take better pictures that can be used in magazines and or other articles.

Creative Critical Reflection #2

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences with it exiting pictures and vibrant colors as well as good stories about all teams throughout SouthWest Florida. Many of the readers will read this magazine just to keep up with the local teams and to see what is new in the sports world. The product will be distributed by trucks to many of the large scale retail stores including Target, Publix, Walmart, etc. Not only will we have in store sales but the magazine will be offered online for any people that are interested in subscribing and receiving weekly copies of the sports magazine.

Creative Critical Reflection #1

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups?
My product uses conventions by having a exiting cover page which is proven by many of the other sports magazines to have a large impact on sales. The more exiting something looks the more eager people will be to want to buy and read the product. Also i use the footer in my magazine to put my magazine title just like ESPN and Sports Illustrated do to remind readers of what magazine they are reading and also to further their advertising. My magazine is not really representing any social groups as it is more of a local magazine and we didn't want politics to be involved.

distribution research

Not only did Sports Illustrated use this new method but also ESPN started to use the digital distribution to there advantage. ESPN has a website which offers all the information that the reader would need to sign up for their online magazine which is the same magazines as the hard copies just in a digital form. Many people prefer the digital form because it is on their phones or computers and are around them all day long. On lunch breaks or after work instead of having to carry around a magazine all day they can just log in on their phone a easily access the newest copies of the magazine. Overall digital distribution of magazines (especially sports magazines) have largely increased their sales and have had a positive impact on readers making it easier to read their favorite magazines.

target audience

The magazine that i am making falls under the sports category, the main audience of sports magazines are athletes, sports fans, and locals in the city that the magazine is talking about. The main way that other sport magazines target these people are, they use high schools or colleges in many of their stories which interest high school and college athletes as well as any of the locals of that team. Next each edition usually has a new main athlete which interests many of the sports fans because they tend to read the articles that are of their favorite players or teams. I will use these techniques to attract more people to read my magazine as well as target the normal audience of a sports magazine.

super bowl commercials

from the Superbowl commercials that we watched i realized how much advertisements on a large stage can effect the sales of that product. Companies spend tons of money for a feature in the Superbowl were they will only be aired for 30 seconds to a minute. They use comedy and exiting commercials to grab the audiences attention and show them what there brand is and why the viewers should buy their product. These commercials slowed down and really paid attention too made me realize how important that commercials and advertisement really are.

revision

Old Cover

New Cover

On my original cover the text was difficult to read and the picture wasn't the best of quality. I Underlined my title to really exaggerate it as well as putting a new picture in, on top of that i changed the color of my font for the article names and made them much more visible for the readers.

Old

I did not put any pictures on the original and also had tones of white space. I fixed this by making the background colored and adding a couple of pictures. Also i used text art to make the title really pop out at the readers.

I decided that the layout that i used the first time was not very appealing and had a lot of white space. I used publisher to make the page more appealing and added some pictures to make the white space very minimal

Old Cover
New Cover
I forgot to fully edit the first cover so there was a black box around the athletes names. I got rid of that as well as moving the article names more to the side so that you can clearly see the image, this also allowed the text to pop more than it did previously.

distribution research

Magazines especially sports magazines have more recently relied on a lot of there sales coming off of digital distribution. Sports Illustrated saw this as an opportunity to be better and sell more magazines then anyone of their competitors. They have taken digital distribution to a whole new level by producing a tablet addition of their magazine very week. This is easier for buyers so all they have to do to read the magazine is press a couple of buttons. The readers can subscribe online and receive digital editions instead of hard copies. The digital distribution has largely impacted their sales making a 22% increase in revenue from 2009 to 2010 and the numbers rising every year.

distribution research

The traditional distribution of a magazine of my genre which would be sports, involves being on the shelves in the front of stores like Publix, Walmart, Target, Walgreen's, and many more. Other methods include being shown in important sports games and Tv shows that are about sports that would be included in the magazine. Another method would be, the seller actually standing on corners next to sports stadiums or in large cities with many stores in the area. These are great methods of how to successfully distribute sports magazines.

feedback

After presenting my Magazine i got a lot of advice from my peers and Mr. Elsbree. I was told that i had to much white space so i am planning on using one of the class cameras and taking it to the basketball game to get more filler pictures. I was also told to make the magazine more appealing so i have decided to use a border on the magazine and more color on the pages. Lastly i was told that i should put a little more in my article and also to make the font more easily read on the cover and table of contents. To do this i will add in one or two more athletes to the article, also i will put more color in the words and also use a background onto the letters.

planning

I have talked to all my models for the photo shoot and also looked at my schedule to figure out a few dates that would work for the shoot. I decided that we were all gonna be present so we would only have to take photos once. We have all decided that the best date would be the 6th of December, this will be the date of a basketball game so those players will have access to their uniforms and also the football players will be prepared to have the correct equipment with them as well. This will be the set date for the photo shoot.

Planning

I have gone to a few places for possible photo shoot locations. I have found a few places with good lighting and background. I have visited the SHS courtyard, SHS football locker room and field, SHS basketball gym, other school locker rooms in the area including Riverview, Booker, and Cardinal Mooney. Also i looked at a few locations near the SHS Campus such as the front parking lot with the school in the background, Sarasota fords parking lot with the flag in the background, and lastly the old SHS school building which is under construction. I tend to favor the Locker rooms, the SHS football field, and the SHS football field. All these locations have the sports feeling and look to them and also have very good lighting for the photos to come out great.

This particular one has a few of the amazing athletes in the class of 2020 in the South West region of Florida.
